Evaluate 2.1.2 – Rubrics and Competencies Quest
r this section, set up a competency structure for one unit of your sample course. Associate the assignments in that unit with the competency. Submit both a screenshot of the structure and a detailed explanation of why you created the structure that way. Include a discussion of the various pathways a student may go through to attain the competencies in the unit and document all in your blog.
Using competency switches the focus to what students should be able to do instead of what they should have learned. What I found most interesting is how students could have a variety of methods to prove their competency in a specific area. One student could choose to take a test as proof while one could choose to do a project as proof of their competency.
The way I set up the tests in the courses I have worked on with development (Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Physical Science) would work perfectly with these competencies. Since I have made sub categories for each standard within each test or quiz, one could use analytics to see which specific standards the student achieved and which she did not. You can view more about this structure here.
AP Chemistry LO 6.10 - The student is able to connect Le Chatelier's principle to the comparison of Q to K by explaining the effects of the stress on Q and K.
Here are several different assignments that can be used to assess this competency:
