Communicate 4.1.1 - Evaluation Methods and Communication Practices
Take a moment and return to the resources provided in this section of the Communicate skill and the ongoing exploration of communication practices in the online environment. Then, in your blog, discuss the following:
Without feedback, our courses should just be self directed courses without an actual teacher. The reason we have teachers is specifically to help the students with our feedback. If a teacher is in the habit of consistently communicating, the feedback is more likely to be effective. If the teacher also considers the individual rather than the entire class, the feedback is more likely to be effective.
Authentic feedback is specific to the individual. It is also more than just the answer. It provides explanation of how the answer is determined, showing each student where they went wrong in their process. This is one reason that I require students to show their work on math problems. Otherwise, I can't tell where they have gone wrong. Below is an example of a rubric I created to provide specific feedback. Such examples, which I provide on each lab and free response question enrich a student's online experience through feedback.
- How do communication practices in the online environment correlate to effective feedback?
- Why is authentic feedback important for online learners?
- In what ways might an instructor enrich a student’s online experience through feedback?
